Coffee-shop cozy without coffee-shop prices. This is ridiculously easy to make at home—and once you have the ingredients, each cup costs a fraction of what you'd pay at a café.
Makes: 1 serving
Prep time: 2 minutes
Total time: 7 minutes
Estimated cost: About $1–$2 per cup, depending on your tea, milk and vanilla.
Ingredients
1 Earl Grey tea bag
¾ cup hot water
½ cup milk
1–2 teaspoons vanilla syrup
Sweetener to taste, optional
Pinch of dried culinary lavender, optional
Directions
Steep the Earl Grey tea in ¾ cup hot water for 3–5 minutes.
While the tea steeps, warm the milk until hot but not boiling.
Froth the warm milk with a handheld frother, milk frother or whisk.
Stir the vanilla syrup into the brewed tea.
Pour the warm milk over the tea and spoon the foam on top.
Taste and add additional sweetener or vanilla if desired.
💰 Do the math!
If your favorite coffee shop version runs around $5–$6 and your homemade version costs roughly $1–$2, making it at home even three times a week can save roughly $12 a week…or $600+ a year.
🔥 TIP
Don't buy a fancy milk frother just for this recipe. A cheap handheld frother works perfectly well. No frother at all? Put warm milk in a tightly sealed jar, shake it vigorously, then remove the lid before microwaving briefly to stabilize the foam.
MAKE IT YOURS
Try oat milk for a creamier version, sugar-free vanilla syrup to reduce the sugar, or a tiny sprinkle of culinary lavender for the more traditional Earl Grey-and-lavender flavor.
